Sacrament of
Confirmation
Grant,
Almighty God, that we, who have been redeemed from the old life of sin
by our baptism into the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ,
may be renewed in your Holy Spirit, and live in righteousness and true
holiness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
Confirmation is a mature commitment to one
baptismal covenant, with the laying on of a hands and anointing with oil
by a bishop for the empowerment of ministry by the grace of the Holy
Spirit.
If one has already been confirmed in a
tradition that has apostolic succession (Roman Catholic and Eastern
Orthodox), then one is received into the communion of the
Episcopal Church.
Preparation courses, sometimes called
"inquirers' classes," are offered from time to time by the Rector in
conjunction with other teachers. We offer separate courses for
adults and for those who are in junior or senior high.
Additionally, special courses may be set up to accommodate special
circumstances.
